The plan was always one beer. A pils, done well, on repeat. We are not, by nature, a brewery that wants a wall of taps. One great thing beats ten fine things, and the Pils was the one great thing.
Then a friend stood in the brewhouse, drank a Pils, and asked if we had anything with a bit more to it. We did not. The question stuck.
Toast the malt, see what happens
So we toasted some malt, added a little color, and built an amber ale that still drinks easy but has a touch more to say. Caramel, a hint of orange peel, a soft finish. We called it Rouge, mostly because it sounded better than Slightly Browner Beer.
It is now the beer people order when they want to feel a little fancy without trying hard. Slightly more interesting. That is the entire promise, and it keeps it.
